Prey
By: Rachel Vincent
Write up:I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.
Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.
I'd been warned about Strays—werecats without a Pride—constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.
This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back…for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever—and whoever—I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays—'cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them….
I guess after the last two books, I kind of lost patience for slogging through something even after I have lost interest. I hate not finishing book because...well...I feel like a quitter. But in this case, I gave up about half way through this book. The thing is that, I can't really point to why. I did like the world created. The Werecat society and their rules, and how they fit into the human world. I also like that the character's emotions and their motivations are pretty well thought out and explained...so what they do makes sense and you can understand. So it was written well in that sense. But...something was off for me and I just get not get in the flow of reading. I might have been the main character. While I understood where she was coming from in most cases, I found her kind of whiny and spoiled. If I can't get into the main character...and like them...it is hard for me to continue.
